Abstract
Summary Two series of 85 and 28 patients, respectively, suffering from subacute RA in old age, presented malignant diseases in 14 % and 43 %, respectively. The observed incidence of malignancy was higher than expected — 2.0 and 2.2 times, respectively. There was no definite difference in the sex distribution, ARA classes, incidence of rheumatoid factor, positive X-ray, diseases under ARA exclusions, increased serum alpha-2-globulins and alkaline phosphatases in patients with and those without malignancy. The mortality rate in series A was 2.6 times, in series B 1.3 times that of the expected. Keywords
