Abstract
A method of measuring the time of breakdown of dielectrics has been developed and a description of the apparatus required to record the associated fast transients is included, together with oscillograms for the breakdown of several dielectrics. For KBr and polythene, times in the range 1-5 ns were observed. The measured voltage collapse time for KBr justifies estimates made in interpreting recent Kerr cell photographs taken in this laboratory. Keywords
