Streptomycin in the Treatment of Leptospira Carriers. Experiments with Hamsters and Dogs.

Abstract
Although streptomycin and penicillin both are effective against leptospiremia and may be lifesaving for dogs and hamsters, only streptomycin successfully combats leptospiruria and hence the carrier state. Because accurate diagnosis is usually delayed until the leptospiras have disappeared from the blood, streptomycin increases in importance as a therapeutic and preventive agent in canine leptospirosis.
