Abstract
Total parenteral nutrition has been of clinical importance in the United States for less than a decade. Although it has not yet achieved its full status, its striking impact on medical practice and research has been expedited by numerous conferences and scientific meetings,1 , 2 and the development of textbooks and guides for its appropriate use.3 4 5 It necessitates a team approach with expertise in diverse areas, including technical and nursing skills, nutrition and metabolism.
