BILATERAL OVARIAN VEIN SYNDROME

Abstract
Five cases of bilateral ovarian vein dilatation with concomitant ureteral obstruction are reported. Retrograde left ovarian venous flow via a dilated vein to the pelvis with drainage by a dilated right ovarian vein is observed. Distal unilateral on bilateral ureteral obstruction may ensue. The anatomy, pathophysiology, symptomatology, roentgenology and possible surgical approaches are discussed. Hypotheses as to the incidence and the predominant right sided involvement are postulated. This entity of bilateral dilated ovarian veins with unilateral on bilateral distal ureteral obstruction should not be termed the right ovarian vein syndrome, but the bilateral ovarian vein syndrome.
