Stability Conditions in Plant Defense Guilds

Abstract
A simple model of interactions between 2 plant species is developed to determine stability conditions for species whose net reproductive rates depend on their neighbors. Stable association results in 2 cases: if each species'' net reproductive rate when growing alone is less than its net reproductive rate when growing with the other species, or if the gain in net reproductive rate for 1 secies from growing in mixture is greater than the loss in net reproductive rate for the other species growing in mixture.
