Abstract
The infrared spectra of thirteen aliphatic aldehydes of varying structure have been recorded and analyzed in the range of 700–400 cm−1 The structural configuration adjacent to the carbonyl group was found to affect the observed spectra in a specific manner It thus appears possible to differentiate α-branched and non-α-branched aliphatic aldehydes from their infrared spectra in this region. Keywords
