Abstract
We have detected the cataclysmic variable V101 in M5 with the ROSAT HRI detector. The X-ray luminosity is at the high end of the distribution for known cataclysmic variables in the galactic disc. The ratio of X-ray to optical flux indicates that V101 is a dwarf nova. The failure to detect X-rays from the core indicates that the cluster core contains few cataclysmic variables. We also detect an X-ray source in the core of M80, and argue that it is probably not the counterpart of the old nova T Sco.Keywords
