Abstract
Initial tensile moduli have been measured for wet fibres over the temperature range 22—lOO°C. A few measurements have been made at temperatures up to 14O°C with the fibres immersed in liquid paraffin. Cellulosic fibres have moduli which are greatly reduced by the presence of moisture and, once the fibres are wet, temperature has a secondary effect. In contrast, the synthetic fibres are very sensitive to temperature, and, near the boil, the acrylic fibres have very low tensile moduli. The importance of the initial modulus of the wet fibre in textile wet processing is indicated. Keywords
