Abstract
Normal dogs receiving daily injs. of 25 mg. of desoxycorticosterone acetate develop attacks of muscular weakness and a syndrome resembling diabetes insipidus. The attacks of paralysis are associated with a partial replacement of the intracellular K of the skeletal muscles by Na. About 30% of the intracellular K is replaced by Na and this replacement is approx. ion for ion. The paralysis and the disturbance of muscle electrolyte concs. can be prevented by the adm. of KC1. In the reported expts. the "diabetes insipidus" is consistently associated with an elevation of serum Na. Neither the diabetes insipidus nor the elevation of serum Na is influenced by the adm. of KC1.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
