Abstract
Isothermal bulk moduli are calculated for elements with valencies z from 1 to 4. Except for the smallest-core ions, for z=3 and 4 (and perhaps also for z=2), second order perturbation theory is deficient. In second order, for all z. the volume contribution is negative and comparable in size with the total bulk modulus. Keywords
