Abstract
In 4 cases of disseminated coccidioidomycosis, sections of the heart revealed nonspecific myocarditis in 3, and a specific granuloma in 1. In all cases the lungs showed the typical pneumonitis and granulomas that occur in disseminated coccidioidomycosis. In 1 of the cases pulmonary tuberculosis occurred with the coccidioidomycosis. The myocarditis consisted of diffuse or focal collections of mononuclear cells, lymphocytes, eosinophils and polymorphonuclear leukocytes in the interstitial tissue or perivas-cularly. The muscle fibers showed degenerative changes. The granuloma was a miliary lesion separating bundles of degenerating muscle and consisted of small foci of granular, anuclear necrosis, mononuclear cells, lymphocytes, multinucleated giant cells, and a spherule typical of Coccidioides immttis. Keywords
