Abstract
SQ 26,776 (SQ), a new monocyclic β -lactam, has considerable in-vitro activity against gonococci and a great variety of enterobacteria, in particular multiply-resistant clinical isolates. This activity is similar to that of new cephalosporins. Rare strains of klebsiella exist which are relatively insensitive because they possess β -lactamases, which inactivate both SQ and many of the new cephalosporins. Activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacteroides fragilis was relatively less in that order, for a small minority of the latter again due to β -lactamase activity. Keywords
