Abstract
The pre-metacercarial stages of T. laruei develop in the digestive gland or the brackish water operculate snail Thiara riquettii obtained from fish ponds in the Experimental Station of the Philippine Bureau of Fisheries, Dagatdagatan, Malabon, Rizal Luzon Island. Of the 701 specimens of the above named snail examined at irregular intervals from November, 1958 to January, 1960, 96 were positive for the transversotrematid cercaria. The cercariae develop in rediae; are biocellate, furcocercous, protandrous and sexually well developed; may develop to progenetic metacercaria in Lates calcarifer and Mollienesia latipinna. Morphological comparisons with Cercaria koliensis Olivier, 1947, and Transversotrema haasi Witenberg, 1944, are herein presented. Based on the findings, the diagnosis of the superfamily Transversotrematoidea LaRue (1957) is emended. Keywords
