New absorption bands and isotopic studies of known transitions in CO

Abstract

Several new absorption bands of the a' ³Σ⁺ - X¹Σ⁺ and e ³Σ^- - X¹Σ⁺ transitions in CO have been observed and analyzed. Vibrational levels of both the a' ³Σ⁺ and e ³Σ^- states are now known to within 0.4 eV of their dissociation limits. Isotopic bands of ¹³C¹⁶O in natural abundance have been analyzed for both transitions. The vibrational numbering of the e ³ Σ ^- state must be increased by one unit. New bands of the I¹Σ^- - X¹ Σ ⁺ and D¹Δ- X¹Σ⁺ transitions are also reported.
