Abstract
The VuSystem is a software-intensive video environment developed on operating systems without real-time features. In the course of our work with this system, interesting questions have been brought up about how resources on a workstation can be best divided between applications, and what resource management features (if any) are required. This paper's main purpose is to outline a rationale for collaborative load shedding and to create an awareness within the operating system community. It also discusses some of our early experiences with simple collaborative load shedding schemes. Keywords
