Health Behaviors of Health Educators: A National Survey

Abstract
Limited research about the specific health behaviors of health educators indicates that their lifestyles are not much different from the general population and that they may not practice the ideal behaviors that might be expected of them. The purpose of this study was to assess the self-reported health behaviors of health educators in terms of generally accepted standards for healthy living set forth by the health education profession. A random sample of 372 members of five health professional organizations was selected. A mail survey consisting of 68 health-related questions was developed and sent to the sample subjects. A response rate of 60 percent was achieved. Sex, age group, and workplace were used as independent variables. All appropriate findings were compared to year 2000 national health goals
