Band nonparabolicity effects on weak-coupling polarons in compound semiconductors

Abstract
The effect of band nonparabolicity on Fröhlich polarons is theoretically investigated within a model which treats the nonparabolicity in a simple two-band approximation. Nonparabolicity is found to affect both the polaronic binding energy and the effective-mass renormalization in contrast to earlier theories which considered band nonparabolicity and polaronic effects to be additive. Comparison between the theory and the existing experimental results on polaron effects in compound semiconductors produced improved agreement.Keywords
