Abstract
The cultural nature of the "hot-cold" syndrome has been emphasized in previous studies. I suggest that the syndrome is also an important aspect of biocultural adaptation among the Maya of Yucatan, especially in prevention of heatstroke and heat cramps, because it includes physiologically realistic rules for behavior during work in a hot climate. Keywords
