Abstract
The DBA/2 strain of mice with susceptibility to sound-induced seizures offers a simple and accurate method of assay for anticonvulsant properties of drugs. Sodium phenobarbital, diphenylhydantoin sodium and trimethadione were assayed to determine for each drug the lowest dose giving 100% protection from sound-induced seizures, the lowest dose preventing lethal seizures, the length of time the lowest effective dose gave protection, and the dose at which clinical signs of toxicity developed. Results are given in tabular and graphic form. The doses of anticonvulsants found effective in these studies while considerably higher than the proportionate dose used in man compare well with effective dose levels of these same drugs as tested by other experimental means in man.Keywords
