Abstract
The direct and indirect fluorescent antibody procedures have been successfully applied both to smears of intact cells prepared from pure cultures of mycobacteria and to mycobacteria present in the sputum. Cross-reactions among antisera of M. tuberculosis, M. kansaii, and M. phlei, when present, could be eliminated by the use of proper dilutions of antisera. Cross-reactions between the antisera of M. aviurr. and Group III non-photochromogens did present a problem, and further investigation of these two groups is needed. Keywords
