Digital controller for closed-loop drive of step motors

Abstract
A digital circuit for the closed-loop control of step motors based on motor position detection from input current waveforms is presented. The operation of the circuit is illustrated by application of the controller to a commercial variable reluctance type step motor. The circuit has been developed with the aim of integrated circuit implementation to obtain a viable closed-loop drive circuit for this type of motor.
