Abstract
THIS report considers peripheral vascular disease under the two main divisions of diseases of the arteries and diseases of the veins.Diseases of the ArteriesThe surgical treatment of peripheral vascular diseases has made tremendous strides in recent years. The role that the sympathetic nervous system plays in the control of the arterial circulation of the extremities and the benefits derived by sympathetic neurectomy in many conditions are certainly to be included in great advances made in the therapy of peripheral arterial disease.
