Inability of Penicillin to Neutralize Dick and Schick Toxins

Abstract
When mixtures of penicillin and Dick toxin were injd. along with parallel mixtures of Dick toxin in saline, no significant differences were observed in the number of positive Dick tests. Incubation of the mixtures prior to injn. did not change the results. Similar findings were obtained with Schick toxin. Penicillin injected into an area of rash in scarlet fever did not cause blanching. Hence, penicillin has no neutralizing effect on I )ick or Schick toxin.
