Abstract
Two strains representative of numerous mycoplasmas isolated from the eyes of cattle with infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) have been characterized. On the basis of their cultural, morphological, biological, and serological properties, these and other antigenically similar strains have been classified as belonging to a new species of Mycoplasmatales for which the name Mycoplasma bovoculi has been proposed. A taxonomic description of the new species is provided. The potential significance of M. bovoculi in the etiology of IBK is currently being investigated. Keywords
