Abstract
The fractions of frequency change Δf/f for AT-cut resonator plates prepared from natural and synthetic quartz are measured as a function of alpha fluence \varPhi up to 2×1012 alphas/cm2. In contrast to the results in the case of electron irradiation, the Δf/f-\varPhi relations for natural and synthetic quartz are found to be identical and are linear with a slope of (Δf/f)/\varPhi=-2×10-17 cm2/alphas. This result can be explained if an internal stress existing at the interfacial layer of damaged and undamaged regions of quartz is assumed. The expansion of the damaged region of quartz is also a possible origin of the frequency change. Keywords
