Abstract
The vibrational widths of the 2ν1, 3ν1 and 2ν3 bands of N2O in SF6 and CCl4 were determined. The most interesting results were provided by the ν1 mode in SF6; assuming that vibration-rotation interaction is negligible, we conclude that the width is totally inhomogeneous for 3ν1 and purely homogeneous for ν1. The results are not so clear in other cases. The fundamentals show rather fast modulation and the overtones present an intermediate regime between slow and fast modulation. Keywords
