A check on the efficiency of finding colours‐ringed kittiwakesRissa tridactyla

Abstract
We made repeated checks of the colour‐ringed Kittiwakes visible at study colonies prior to and during two breeding seasons. In 1992, nine checks before birds started to breed were needed to record 95% of the birds known to be present. In 1991, 15 checks at this time detected only 92.5% of birds. Checks during incubation and when adults were feeding young were far less efficient.
