Introduction

Abstract
This chapter focuses on the prevailing ethical issues currently faced by British lawyers. Lawyers particularly those from Britain are very unpopular among the other professionals due to the negative image that surrounds the profession. There is a popular belief that lawyers are only after economic gain and are willing to do every means possible to succeed, even the use of illegal means. A reason for this prevalent ill notion of lawyers and the legal profession lies in the fact that too little attention is given to the study of legal ethics. In addition, certain ideological and institutional pressures are preventing lawyers from developing and upholding the ethical values of the profession. Another reason is that the current form of legal ethics is so dominated by the influences of formalism and liberalism.
