Bistable laser-diode memory for optical time-division switching applications

Abstract
Recently, a test of an optical time-division switching using single-mode fiber (SMF) delay lines for an optical memory array was reported.1 Fiber delay lines have the advantages of stable operation and simple fabrication, but they have no amplification or regeneration function. Therefore, solid-state optical memory devices have been eagerly expected to be developed from the integration viewpoint as well as the amplification or regeneration viewpoint.
