Abstract
This is a report of 74 verified cases with parotid carcinoma comprising 26% of all parotid tumors during the period 1932 to 1956. There were 29 adenocarcinomas (10 acinic-cell, 10 adenoid cystic, 9 miscellaneous), 21 muco-epidermoid carcinomas, and 16 malignant mixed tumors. The net five-year survival rate for determinate cases was 66%, for those apparently disease-free at 5 years the rate was 53%. From this study it was concluded that radiation has a definite role in dealing with parotid cancer. The results of both conservative parotidectomy, and local excision appear to have been improved by this adjunctive therapy. Moreover there was one 5-year survival amongst 7 inoperable cases treated only by irradiation. Keywords
