Abstract
An ultrafast quenching device based on the hammer-anvil system is combined with a 2 kW solar furnace. It is particularly useful for rapid quenching of refractory materials from the liquid state (up to 3000 degrees C) in any atmosphere. Such an apparatus was used to prepare various amorphous oxides and to study nonstoichiometric phenomena occurring above the melting point. Keywords
