Abstract
The coproporphyrins formed by the polymerization of monopyrroles in acidic solution are a random mixture. In the presence of cupric salts, the ratios are altered in favor of the I-isomer. It is considered that the pyrrole nuclei are initially linked together by a mechanism consistent with the formation of the I-type porphyrin isomer. Keywords
