Abstract
SURGERY of the heart and structures related to it will be considered under five main headings —congenital lesions, trauma, acute pericarditis, constrictive pericarditis and miscellaneous conditions.Congenital Lesions Pulmonary Stenosis or Pulmonary Atresia Blalock and Taussig1 have recently reported and discussed 3 cases in which children with severe degrees of pulmonary stenosis were operated on successfully and with apparent benefit. Heretofore, there has been no satisfactory treatment for pulmonary stenosis or pulmonary atresia. A so-called "blue baby" with a malformed heart was considered beyond the reach of surgical aid.
