Abstract

As the beginning of a program to study

E 2

lifetimes in the neighborhood of

A = 16

, we have remeasured the mean lifetimes of the first excited states of

O^{17}

and

F^{17}

; we find (2.587±0.042)×

10^{- 10}

sec and (4.068±0.087)×

10^{- 10}

sec, respectively.
