Threshold for Superfluid Vortex Lines in a Rotating Annulus

Abstract
An experimental observation of the onset of quantized vortex lines in a rotating annulus of He II has been made. The results agree with the predictions of Donnelly and Fetter which were based on a free-energy approach, provided care is taken to ensure equilibrium.Keywords
