Abstract
Chiral ethyl 3-lithio-2-methyl-3-(1-phenylethoxy)-acrylate (2) was reacted with various aldehydes leading to a stereoselective synthesis of structurally important tetronic acid derivatives 3a-f (5-substituted 3-methyl-4-(1-phenylethoxy)furan-2(5H)-ones].
