Abstract
A new concept of anesthesia in patients undergoing operations of the lumbar vertebral column is presented. Electrostimulation of 4 auricular acupuncture points is combined with controlled ventilation of NO2 O2 mixture. This combination is comparable to similar anesthesia procedures of other operative fields. In 30 patients the anesthesia was performed as a combined electrostimulation-hypalgesia. In a control study of 30 similar patients a mixture of NO2 and O2 only was used. For 120 min systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate of both groups are measured and compared. The postoperative state and individual data from the patients are included in the investigation. The analgesia established by combined electrostimulation-hypalgesia seems to be based essentially on the effect of NO2 and premedication, induction of anesthesia, relaxation and ventilation. Electrostimulation of auricular acupuncture points seems to induce stabilization of the circulatory system. The relevance of electrostimulation in this method of anesthesia must be judged very critically.
