Abstract
A new calculation indicates that measurements of the Cerenkov density spectrum using two separated detectors should provide a powerful method of obtaining the cosmic-ray spectrum and the energy dependence of the primary mass composition in the energy range above 1014 eV up to approximately 1017 eV. The authors find, however, that conventional single-detector measurements cannot be interpreted unambiguously to obtain the cosmic-ray spectrum unless the primary mass composition is known a priori. Keywords
