Abstract
Many speakers of Serbo-Croatian read the language in two phonemically precise and partially overlapping alphabets. Twenty years of experiments directed toward this ability have led to deeper understandings of the role of speech-related processes in reading and the contrasts and similarities among the world's alphabetic writing systems.Keywords
