Abstract
It is found that an optical field from a two- or three-dimensional object can be transmitted through a homogeneous planar waveguide. In principle, the information from a portion of an optical image is allotted to a guided mode, and, for the planar multimode waveguide, the image transmission can be performed in such a way that a transparency inserted in the path of the wedge-shaped incident wave gives a shadowgraph sampled by m-lines. It is also shown that not only monochromatic but also colour images are transmitted without any chromatic aberration. Keywords
