Abstract
The local government areas adjacent to the Australian Capital Territory have attracted Canberra migrants as new residents since the mid 1960s, but migration since 1980 is described as a ‘spillover’ across a border to serviced land in Queanbeyan, Yass and rural villages. Demographic characteristics of Canberra's expanding dormitory zone are identified, with attention drawn to the need for coordinated planning, development and management at subregional level.
