Approaches to Penetration Problems

Abstract
The three approaches to penetration mechanics are described; namely, data correlation, numerical simulation, and engineering models. The relative strengths and weaknesses of each are discussed. As an example of the use of engineering models, it is shown how Tate's 'modified Bernoulli equation' follows as a consequence of the global balance of mass, momentum, and energy in a steady flow.
