Abstract
Patients (3) are presented with perforation of the extraperitoneal rectum secondary to catheter trauma during routine radiological retrograde barium contrast studies. Although a low incidence rate is reported, mortality rates may remain high due to peritonitis, regardless of therapy. Surgical diversion of the fecal stream via colostomy and postoperative peritoneal draining are suggested to manage such rectal perforations. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
