STUDIES OF AEROMONAS FORMICANS CRAWFORD COMB. NOV. FROM SOLUBLE OIL EMULSIONS

Abstract
Fourteen cultures of bacteria isolated from a used soluble oil emulsion obtained from Peoria, Illinois were similar to Pseudomonas formicans Crawford. Some of the 14 cultures differed in several respects from the isolates of Crawford and are considered strains of this species. The species contains an active hexokinase and aldolase but appears to lack glucose -6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Because of its fermentative characteristics this organism is considered to be a member of the genus and described as a new combination Aeromonas formicans.
