Abstract
The acceleration of heavy ions, produced in a laser-induced plasma, with a Van de Graaff has been demonstrated. In order to generate the ions, a prototype of a laser-ion source was constructed. Using a small Nd:YAG laser (flux≤6.5×108 W/cm2, pulsed), we were able to measure charge states of positive ions, Fen+, Tan+, Aun+ with n≤4. Currents up to 0.6 mA (during the pulse) could be observed. Keywords
