Abstract
We calculate the electric dipole moment of the electron () in left-right-symmetric theories. Particular attention is given to clarify the way in which the various CP-violating phases enter in the calculation and on the distinction between the cases of Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. The calculated value of can be comparable to the present experimental limit if the right-handed neutrino is sufficiently heavy.
