Abstract
Antecedents and consequences of child maltreatment are viewed within an ecological framework as the product of ineffective attempts to cope with intrapersonal, intrafamiial, and extrafamilial sources of frustration and conflict. Long-term effects of the abusive environment and foster care on the development of the abused child are discussd.Keywords
