Abstract
Uniform orbital magnetic susceptibilities chi orb of vanadium and paramagnetic iron are estimated by use of the expression given by Hebborn and March (1970) for the wavenumber-dependent orbital magnetic susceptibility, chi (q), and by taking the extrapolation to q=0. Computational details are almost identical with those used in the previous study by these authors. The crystal potentials used are the same as those used by Janak (1977) for the calculation of enhanced spin susceptibility I chi spin. The calculated values of chi orb for vanadium and iron are 168 and 70*10-6 EMU mol-1, respectively. The calculated value of the total magnetic susceptibility I chi spin+ chi orb for vanadium is in excellent agreement with the value obtained experimentally. Numerical results for chi (q) at small q are also given. Keywords
