Abstract
Single crystals of Nd(Al1-xCrx)3(BO3)4 have been grown. The pump light is absorbed in the broad, intense Cr3+ absorption bands and transferred efficiently within less than 100 ns to Nd3+. The Nd3+ fluorescence lifetime is 19 mu s up to x=0.05, and decreases to 5 mu s for x=1. Compared with the x=0 crystals, the same Nd3+ inversion can be obtained with an order of magnitude reduction in the spectral power density of pump light for x=0.05.Keywords
